As they did with Lucifer, Prithviraj Sukumaran and team have been sharing updates of each cast member of its sequel Empuraan every day in the month leading up to the release on March 27. It has been revealed that some of the key players in Lucifer will be reprising their roles in Empuraan, a few most likely in flashbacks, aside from new names playing characters not seen in the first.
One of the biggest announcements is Suraj Venjaramoodu's (The Great Indian Kitchen, Driving Licence) involvement, which the actor had hinted at earlier but now confirms. The Empuraan team released a poster and promo of the actor, who plays a politician, named Sajanachandran, who has a strong hand in the key events of Kerala politics.
On the role, Venjaramoodu says, "On the set of Driving Licence, in which we acted together, I told Prithviraj that I saw Lucifer and liked it. And then I told him something: 'There's a flaw in that nobody else noticed. Did you?' He got curious and asked what it was. I said, 'Well, the fact that I was not part of it. I felt that 'flaw' strongly.' He burst out laughing, and said, 'Yes I get it.' I said, 'You should rectify that flaw through Empuraan,' and he agreed. So, after a long time, I got a phone call. He has finally rectified that 'flaw'."
Backed by Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions, Empuraan, scripted by Murali Gopy again, has cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev and composer Deepak Dev returning. Principal actors include Mohanlal, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Baiju Santhosh. A handful of international actors are also part of the cast.
