Madelyn Cline will star opposite Hollywood A-Listers Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in Lionsgate’s upcoming film Day Drinker. According to reports, the film will be directed by Mark Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man, Gifted).
Day Drinker follows a cruise ship bartender who meets a mysterious day drinker – only for both of them to find themselves entangled in a criminal underbelly, and connected in unexpected ways. Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee – known for the John Wick series, Hotel Mumbai, and Sicario series – will bankroll the project.

Cline got her big breakthrough in Netflix series Outer Banks which is currently filming its fifth and final season. She also has two other projects lined up for 2025 – sequel to the 1998 film I Know What You Did Last Summer directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Lasse Hallström’s The Map That Leads to You.
Aside from Outer Banks, the 27-year-old in Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, though the film was not as well received as its predecessor Knives Out.
Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz will reunite for the upcoming film for the first time since teaming up in Ted Demme’s Blow (2001) and swashbuckler film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).
Day Drinker will mark Depp’s first big screen role since the highly publicised legal battle against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Oscar-winning actress Cruz is also making a return to Hollywood after a short hiatus. She last appeared on the big screen in Michael Mann’s Ferarri (2023). Aside from Day Drinker, she is currently filming Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride, also starring Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, and Peter Sarsgaard.
