Oviya private video leaked? Social media abuzz with rumours about MMS clip of actress

Social media was abuzz on Saturday with claims about a private video purportedly showing actress Oviya in a compromising position.

X users have shared screenshot of the purported video, wherein a woman with a shoulder tattoo similar to Oviya's can be seen. 

However, there is no confirmation regarding the veracity of the video nor has Oviya responded to the rumours. THE WEEK could not independently verifty the truth about the allegations or the contents of the video.

Oviya Helen, who is popularly referred to as Oviya, is a Thrissur native who began her career in Malayalam movies. She later became a sensation in Tamil film industry. Her debut was in Prithviraj-starrer Kangaroo, a 2007 Malayalam film.

She became popular for her stint in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 1 in 2017. She left the show midway but won the hearts of millions of fans in Tamil Nadu and outside.

During her time in Bigg Boss Tamil, she became close to fellow contestant Aarav. However, when the actor started distancing himself from Oviya, the heartbroken actress jumped into the swimming pool of the Bigg Boss house on live TV when others were asleep. The crew from the show rescued Oviya, following which she told the producers that she wants to quit the show.

Another controversy during the show was when fellow contestants Namitha, Gayathri and Raiza allegedly bullied Oviya by isolating her.
