Robert Downey Jr on the possibility of returning as Iron Man

Downey will soon be seen in Sherlock Holmes 3

Robert Downey Jr., recently said that he would 'happily' return as Tony Stark/ Iron Man. The actor, who recently won an Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, in an interview to Esquire said, “It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

Iron Man was the first superhero to be introduced in the 33-movie Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. Tony Stark met his end in Endgame, which was released in 2019. His character returning to the franchise gets tricky as the years go by. Mainly because, in Endgame, they used time travel to bring back those who perished in Thanos' snap in Infinity War.

Marvel, with the new Doctor Strange and Spiderman movies, is already exploring multiverse stories, where different actors are playing different heroes. There have been rumours of an Avengers: Secret Wars movie bringing back all the original Avengers, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Downey will soon be seen in Sherlock Holmes 3. He will also be seen in The Sympathizer, HBO’s Vietnam War limited series based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
