The Annual Academy Awards are right around the corner. The 96th Oscars will take place on the night of Sunday, March 10. here's what you need to know about the biggest award ceremony of the awards season. Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host the show which will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. 

Kimmel has hosted the ceremony in 2023, 2017 and 2018. Presenting the awards will be Jamie Lee Curtis, Brendan Fraser, Jessica Lange, Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o, Al Pacino, and others.

As for the nominations, Oppenheimer swept quite a few. So did Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon. Ryan Gosling was nominated for best supporting actor for his role as Ken in Barbie and America Ferrera got nominated for best supporting actress for her role in the same movie. 

Greta Gerwig, however, missed out on the nomination for best director and Margot Robbie for best actress. Oppenheimer scored 13 nominations, Poor Things won 11 mentions, while Barbie got eight nods including the ones for best picture and best adapted screenplay.

Other artists who were snubbed include Leonardo DiCaprio, Charles Melton, Dominic Sessa, Wes Anderson and Pedro Almodóvar. Artists nominated under the best actor category include Bradley Cooper, Cillian Murphy, Lily Gladstone, and Emma Stone among others. 

If Lily Gladstone wins the award for best actress for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon, she might become the first Native American woman to win the award. If Sandra Huller, who was nominated for Anatomy of a Fall wins the award, she becomes the first German-born actor to win the award. If Colman Domingo, who is nominated in the best actor category for his role in Rustin takes home the statue he could become the first performer of Afro-Latino descent to win the award.
