Mixed reviews for 'Leo' as first reactions pour in: 'Unnecessary hype, full-on entertainment'

A user hinted of a “surprise” in the movie

As Vijay fans throng theatres to catch first-day-first-shows of Vijay's Leo, social media is filled with reactions on the eagerly anticipated actioner. Early reviews on social media suggest the Lokesh Kanagaraj film is receiving mixed reactions.

While many fans hailed the film as a mass actioner and overall entertainer, some critics felt Leo did not live up to the expectations. Film trade analyst and critic, Manobala Vijayabalan said the film “tried to be a lion but ended up as a cat”. “Despite a promising premise and some commendable efforts from Joseph Vijay and cast, the end result is a disappointment. Lokesh Kanagaraj's Leo fails to live up to the expectations or unnecessary hype,” he wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, however, called it an “exhilarating blend of emotion and mass action”.

A parody account of director Prashant Neel praised Lokesh and Vijay for taking entertainment to the the “next level”. He also hinted of a “surprise” in the movie.

One of the users commented that first half was average, and Trisha's character was 'wasted'. In contrast, another user called it a 'masterpiece' from Lokesh and stated that the visual effects and Vijay's screen presence “were absolute fire”.

The gangster drama also features Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist.
