Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj is gearing up for the release of his next film—the much-awaited Leo. Starring Vijay, the film will hit the big screens on October 19.

Amid the buzz about the film, fans have been speculating whether Leo will be part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). The LCU, an Indian version of Hollywood's superhero universes, is a collection of action thriller films helmed by Kanagaraj. So far, only two films are part of the LCU—Kaithi (2019) and Vikram (2022).

In a recent interview, Kanagaraj, who has not officially confirmed anything in this regard, said that he did not want to disappoint his fans by doing “small things” to connect Leo to the LCU. According to a Times of India report, the filmmaker said he had discussed with Vijay about the cinematic universe, but Leo will remain a standalone film.

However, in an earlier interview Kanagaraj refused to spoil the suspense amid reports that the makers of Leo had met producers of Kaithi and Vikram to obtain a No-Objection Certificate that will be needed to incorporate elements from these films into another.

The gangster drama features an ensemble cast including Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Priya Anand, Mysskin and Gautham Menon among others. The film received a U/A certificate from the Censor Board. According to reports, expletives and bloody action sequences have been reduced from the Vijay-starrer.
