Jailer, Gadar 2, OMG 2, Made in Heaven season 2: Theatre and OTT releases this week

It is an exciting week with big releases in theatres and on streaming platforms. From Rajinikanth's Jailer in theatres to the much-awaited season 2 of Made in Heaven, here is a quick look at the releases this week.

Jailer: In theatres

Release date: August 10

Rajinikanth's action-packed entertainer is the Tamil superstar's first film in two years. Helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film features Rajinikanth in the role of a police officer. The film also features Tamannaah Bhatia, Priyanka Mohan, Shiva Rajkumar, Yogi Babu and Ramya Krishnan among others. With music by Anirudh Ravichander, Tamannaah's peppy dance number 'Kaavalaa from the film has already gone viral. The film also features an extended cameo by Malayalam actor Mohanlal.

Gadar 2: In theatres

Release date: August 10

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol reprises his role of ole of Tara Singh from his 2001 blockbuster hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha Filmmaker Anil Sharma, who also helmed the original, has directed the sequel set in 1971. Also starring Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, the sequel is set in 1971 about 17 years after the events of the first film.

OMG 2: In theatres

Release date: August 11

Locking horns with Gadar 2 at the box office is Akshay Kumar-starrer OMG 2. The comedy drama is a sequel to Paresh Rawal and Akshay's 2012 film OMG: Oh My God. Akshay was initially supposed to essay the role of Lord Shiva in the sequel, but his role has been modified after the CBFC's intervention. The Censor Board suggested a couple of modifications, including changing Akshay's character to a 'messenger of god', before granting the film an 'A' certificate. Helmed by Amit Rai, the film also features Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi.

OTT releases

Made in Heaven season 2: Amazon Prime Video

Release date: August 11

Four years after the hugely popular first season, creators Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti return with a new season of the show that revolves around two wedding planners Tara Khanna and Karan Mehra. The show delves into the backstories of opulent Indian weddings while also capturing the turbulence in the personal lives of the protagonists. The show features Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur in lead roles.

Heart of Stone: Netflix

Release date: August 11

Alia Bhatt's Hollywood debut, the spy thriller features Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in pivotal roles. Directed by Tom Harper, Heart of Stone follows Gadot's Rachel Stone, an intelligence operative working for a peacekeeping agency called Charter. Things are set in motion when the organisation's cutting-edge weapon, called the Heart, is stolen by Alia's character.

Only Murders in the Building season 3: Disney plus Hotstar

Release date: August 8

The comedy series will see the return of the trio essayed by Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Martin Short. The mystery drama will also features special appearances by Paul Rudd and Meryl Streep.
