Yesteryear actress Asha Parekh observed that while people are writing for roles for Amitabh Bachchan even in his old age, they don't do the same for older actresses.

She pointed out that older actresses end up playing mother or grandmother characters.

“Today, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, at this age also, people are writing roles for him. Why aren’t people writing roles for us? We also should be getting some roles which are important to the film. That’s not there. Either we are playing mother, grandmother or we are playing the sister. Who’s interested?” she said during a session of Prime Video's Maitri: Female First Collective.

Maitri is an attempt to help build a community for women from media and entertainment offering a platform to come together to share their experiences, challenges and success stories.

Asha Parekh said in the earlier days the career of actresses would end when they get married, but it has changed now. However, the trend of lead actors who are 50 or 55 working with actresses much younger than them is acceptable even now, she added.
