Letter warns actor against insulting Savarkar

The Mumbai Police has launched an investigation following a complaint filed by actor Swara Bhasker claiming that she had received an anonymous threat letter. The letter, reportedly sent to her residence in Versova by speed post, warned the actor against insulting Veer Savarkar.

Swara approached Versova police station two days ago and lodged a complaint against unidentified persons, an official said, according to PTI.

"Based on the complaint, we have registered a non-cognisable offence against unidentified persons," he said, adding that the investigation is on.

The letter, written in Hindi and filled with abuses, mentions that the youth of the country will not tolerate the insult of Veer Savarkar.

The actor, known for voicing her opinion on the socio-political issues in the country, is a staunch critic of the right wing fringe groups.

In 2019, she shared a video titled Understanding “veer” Savarkar on Twitter and said: “The planned construction of a most cowardly ‘braveheart’”

In a 2017 tweet, she had said: “Savarkar APOLOGISED To the British govt. pleaded to be let out of jail! That's not 'Veer' for sure...”
