The team donated Rs 10 lakh to the chief minister’s COVID-19 relief fund

Tamil Nadu’s beloved YouTube channel, Village Cooking Channel (VCC), has garnered more that 10 million subscribers, and was presented the diamond play button. The channel which was started in 2018, features cousins V. Subramanian, V. Murugesan, V. Ayyanar, G. Tamilselvan and T. Muthumanickam, led by their grandfather and former caterer M. Periyathambi.

The VCC gave Rs 10 lakh to the chief minister’s COVID-19 relief fund on July 4.

VCC has become the first Tamil YouTube channel to attain this milestone. The team’s cooking videos are much-loved by those even outside the state. It is not just the food dishes that have captured the attention of viewers; the lush green village setting for the videos and the infectious energy of the team members keep viewers hooked.

In February, the channel won the Black Sheep Award for the Best Food Programme as well. One of VCC’s episodes featured Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, when he was in Tamil Nadu campaigning for the Assembly elections. In the episode, he was seen interacting with the villagers, and he even joined them in cooking mushroom biriyani and raita. The episode ended with the Congress leader relishing the biriyani along with the team. The team said they could not believe Rahul Gandhi had come to meet them and spend time on the show. While leaving, Rahul said he liked the food and would try something else when he visits again.
