Actor Sonu Sood, on Thursday, appealed to the government that new rules be made to ensure free education to children who lost their parents to COVID-19. In a video posted on Instagram, Sonu said that many families have lost their sole breadwinners and urged the government and organisations to ensure a system is in place to support these families.

Speaking in Hindi, Sonu said that the education of these young children, be it in private or government schools, colleges and professional courses, should be made absolutely free.  “Need to come together for every individual who’s lost a loved one in this pandemic,” he shared in the caption.

Sonu has been actively involved in philanthropic work since the nation-wide lockdown last year. Besides helping migrant labourers and families reach their home states during the pandemic-induced lockdown, Sonu has also extended his work towards providing financial assistance to those struggling to meet ends during the lockdown.

With the second wave of COVID-19 raging across the country, Sonu has been helping people with medicines and oxygen.

He had also recently tested positive for the coronavirus after expressing his helplessness about being unable to arrange beds and medicines for all people who have sent him requests. He recovered and tested negative for COVID-19 on April 24.
