'The Great Indian Kitchen' selected for Shanghai International Film Festival

The director took to Facebook to announce the news

Mollywood movie The Great Indian Kitchen, which won pan-India acclaim for its no-holds-barred portrayal of the traps of patriarchy and subjugation of women, has been selected for the Shanghai International Film Festival 2021.

Director of the movie, starring Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead, Jeo Baby, took to social media on Friday, to announce the news. "We are Happy to Announce that The Great Indian Kitchen Movie  is an official selection at the Prestigious Shanghai International Film Festival," he said in a Facebook post.

On Thursday, the director had posted an appreciation message from Bollywood actor Rani Mukherji, who to asked South Indian actor Prithviraj to convey to Baby that she thought the movie was "brilliant" and that she "loved" it.

In a WhatsApp message, Mukherji had said, "there's a film called The great Indian kitchen.. I saw it ... and thought it was brilliant!!! Pls can you tell the director that I lovedd the film and it's one of the greatest Indian films made in recent times.."

A few days ago, the movie, which was initially streamed on the digital platform Neestream, was made available on Amazon Prime Video.
