Amazon Prime’s series Mirzapur is in fresh legal trouble after the Supreme Court, on Thursday, issued a notice to the makers of the series and the streaming platform. This is in response to a petition filed by a resident of Mirzapur in UP. The apex court has sought responses from the makers.
The petitioner complained that Mirzapur had been portrayed in a bad light in the web series, NDTV reported.
Amazon Prime’s latest series, Tandav, has also kicked up a storm, with multiple FIRs filed against the show for alleged inappropriate depiction of Hindu deities.
On Wednesday, an FIR has now been registered against producers of Mirzapur for hurting "religious sentiments" and tarnishing the image of the town in Uttar Pradesh.
The FIR has named show producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Bhaumik Gondaliya under IPC sections 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC along with sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act, the Indian Express reported.
The second season of Mirzapur had premiered on the streaming platform in October last year. The series also faced backlash and boycott calls on social media.
