Lyricist Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut over dragging his name into the controversy surrounding the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

In a complaint filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate at Andheri in Mumbai, the lyricist said his reputation has been tarnished because of the actor's comments. The actor had taken Akhtar's name with regard to the feud that she had with actor Hrithik Roshan.

According to the complaint, the vetran lyricist claimed that she dropped his name while speaking about the "coterie" existing in the Bollywood industry.

In June, Kangana had claimed that Akhtar had once called her to his house and told her that Rakesh Roshan and his family are powerful people and told her to aplogise to them. "Once Javed Akhtar had called me to his house and told me that Rakesh Roshan and his family are very big people. If you don't apologise to them, you will have nowhere to go. They will put you in jail, and eventually, the only path would be that of destruction... you will commit suicide,” the actor said.

"Why did he think if I don't apologise to Hrithik Roshan, I would have to commit suicide? He shouted and yelled at me," the actor had asked.
