Kollywood actor Suriya, who is gearing up for the release of the semi-biography flick Soorarai Pottru revealed that playing an youngster in the movie at the age of 45 was a sweet challenge.

The actor, who is known for impressive physical transformations to fit into the characters, in an interview to an entertainment portal, said it was not easy to play a teenager at his age.

He said he had to shoot for the younger version of himself in the movie the very next day after playing the adult version. "It was a sweet challenge. I maintain discipline throughout the year when it comes to my health. When I keep maintaining it at 80 per cent, jumping to 100 is easier when compared to starting afresh," he said. The actor said director Sudha K. Prasad and cinematographer Niketh had planned to use CGI marks on his face to make him look like the younger version of himself, but decided against it.

On working with director Sudha of Irudhi Suttru fame, he said he realized that he did a great job when he saw her eyes getting moist during the shoot. "I am not a great actor—not one to pull off a profound performance in front of the camera....I depend a lot on my personal experience and emotions. As Sudha knows me personally, we were able to work my performance out to our mutual satisfaction," the actor was quoted as saying.

The actor also said he does not do films for fame or because he is in the movie industry, but wants each film to create an impact and "prove that no dream is so big that it’s beyond fruition."

Suriya said he had the satisfaction of doing something he loves on the sets of Soorarai Pottru, and added that the last time he felt something similar was when he was shooting for movies like PithamaganNandhaMounam Pesiyadhe and Kaakha Kaakha.

Soorarai Pottru, also starring Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal and Mohan Babu in the lead, will stream on Amazon Prime Video on November 12. The movie is a fictionalised version of the book 'Simply Fly' written on the life of Air Deccan founder Captain G. R. Gopinath.
