On Sunday, India responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to switch off lights and light candles or diyas to show solidarity in the country's fight against the coronavirus. However, there were also a few who took this appeal to a step further and burst crackers.

This did not go down well with Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor, who is currently in New Delhi. The actor took to social media to express her anger over those who decided to burst crackers.

"People are bursting crackers. Just FYI . They dogs are freaking out. Do people think it’s Diwali? I’m so confused," the actor tweeted.

In another tweet, the actor said, "There was complete peace and quite, and now the birds ,dogs and sirens are freaking out in south Delhi because some morons decided to burst fire crackers tonight."

However, the actor faced much backlash for her tweets, with some netizens digging up old photos of the actor bursting crackers.

Sonam was in no mood to be pulled down by her trolls. Borrowing a quote from popular American writer Mark Twain, she tweeted: "Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience."

Reacting to those who dug up the old tweet, the actor wrote" "I’m so glad you see common sense. That there is a time and place for everything".

After her tweet, Mark Twain was the top trending topic on Twitter.
