The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards was a disappointing fare for HBO's Game of Thrones. Though it did win the biggest award of the night—Outstanding Drama Series—the series lost out on most other nominations. Peter Dinklage won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award for his performance as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones.

Despite the record-breaking 32 nominations that the final season had secured this year, only two awards. This can be attributed to negative response that the final season garnered from fans and critics alike. "These last 10 years have been the best years of our lives, I can't believe we did it, we shall never see it's like again... It's amazing you are all still alive," showrunner David Benioff said in his acceptance speech.
