Even as Bollywood actor Zaira Wasim's decision to quit movies has shocked many, Hindu Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani has asked Hindu actors to follow suit.
On Sunday, in a detailed social media post, the Dangal actor had announced her decision to stop acting in movies as she felt that the profession was interfering with her relationship with her religion.
Taking to Twitter, Swami Chakrapani lauded the actor for the decision she has taken and said, “Actress Zaira Wasim, moving away from films for religious faith, is commendable. Hindu actresses should also take inspiration from her.”
He, however, did not offer any reason for asking Hindu actors to stay away from Bollywood.
This isn't the first time that Swami Chakrapani is in the news for outrageous statements. In 2018, when Kerala was facing one of the worst floods that the state has ever witnessed, he had infamously said flood relief and support should not be extended to those eating beef. He claimed that the state was affected by the floods because of the sin of consuming beef.
Zaira Wasim's decision to leave Bollywood came as a rude shock to her fans and members of the film fraternity. While many rallied in support of the actor saying her decision should be respected, there were also those who said the move was regressive' and in 'bad taste'.
On Monday, she reiterated her decision to end her association with movie after many internet users said the actor's social media account may have been hacked. "This to clarify that none of my social media accounts were or are hacked and are being handled by me personally. Kindly refrain from believing or sharing claims that state otherwise. Thanks," she wrote on Twitter.
