'Kolayuthir Kaalam': Nayanthara film in legal trouble, might miss release

The film is directed by Chakri Toleti

Kolayuthir Kaalam, starring Nayanthara, has run into a legal trouble and may not release on June 14 as scheduled.

The Madras High Court on Tuesday put an interim injunction on the film's release, and has asked the film's producers to respond by June 21. Trouble started for the film when director Balaji Kumar filed a petition claiming he holds the rights to the film's title. He claimed that Kolayuthir Kaalam was the title of a novel by author Sujatha, and that he had bought rights to the novel and the title. Balaji also asserted that the Tamil word 'Kolayuthir' was in fact coined by Sujatha himself.

According to reports, in the petition, Balaji also said that his repeated notifications to the film's makers went unheard, after which he approached the court for an interim injunction.

Directed by Chakri Toleti, Kolayuthir Kaalam has been produced by V Mathiyalagan of Etcetera Entertainment in association with Starpolaris Pictures LLP.

Kolayuthir Kaalam is a much anticipated film for Nayanthara fans. Kollywood's lady superstar will be seen playing a character with speech disability, stranded in a haunted house.

The film was also at the centre of a controversy recently, when during its audio launch in Chennai, actor Radha Ravi slutshamed Nayanthara. His comments drew massive backlash both from public and film fraternity.
