A case has been filed against popular Kollywood director Pa. Ranjith over his comments on Chola emperor Raja Raja Cholan.
According to media reports, Pa. Ranjith, the man who helmed movies like Kaala, Kabali and Madras, at a public meeting in Tiruppanandal on June 5, spoke about the struggles faced by dalits during the Chola emperor's reign. He said land was taken away from dalits by fraudulent means during the period.

Further, he said the oppressive Devadasi system system was and ill treatment of dalits were prevalent during his era. He reportedly made the speech at an event organised by Blue Panthers Party.
After a video of the speech was circulated online, former Thanjavur district secretary of Hindu Makkal Katchi, Bala, filed a complaint against the director. Bala alleged that the director attempted to create division among various sections of people, according to media reports.
The complaint was registered against Pa. Ranjith under sections of IPC that deal with wanton provocation with an an intent to cause riot—if the riot is committed—and if the riot is not committed, attempting to create enmity between different group on the basis of race, religion, language, residence etc, reports The Hindu.
