Delhi police SHO to sue 'Delhi Crime' director for derogatory portrayal

Delhi Crime, the recent Netflix series on the December 16, 2012 Delhi gang-rape has been receiving great reviews for its sensitive portrayal of the crime files. The series, directed by Richie Mehta, looks at the probe through the eyes of the Delhi police team and is being appreciated for how it humanises the cops and the challenges they faced. The series is in trouble now, with reports that director Richie is being sued by Inspector Anil Sharma who was part of the original investigation team.

Sharma, who is currently, Station House Officer of Lodhi Colony police station said he was upset with his 'derogatory' portrayal as an irresponsible officer. Speaking to IANS, he said that he was in fact commended by his seniors for his work on cracking the horrific crime that shook the nation.

Sharma also said, “I lost my ailing father Harbans Lal Sharma and elder brother, Sanjay Sharma during the trial. My brother fell down in residence in my absence and later died of excess bleeding. I was bathing my brother’s body for last rites and at the same time, I got a call from my senior officer about the case, I immediately skipped the last rites and reported to the officer without telling about the tragedy.”

Delhi Crime features Shefali Shah as Vartika Chaturvedi who plays the part of DCP Chhaya Sharma, who carried out the actual investigation with her team, in 2012.
