Mohanlal shares first look as Kunjali Marakkar

Malayalam actor Mohanlal took to Twitter to share his first look from director Priyadarshan's big budget film Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham. Donning a turban and traditional clothes, Mohanlal is seen holding an old-fashioned telescope.

Mohanlal plays the titular role of Kunjali Marakkar IV, who was the naval chief of the Zamorin of Calicut. Priyadarshan had said that leading artists from Britain and also Bollywood, Tollywood will also be featured in the movie. The major scenes of Marakkar will be shot at sea. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Ashirvad Cinemas, the film is touted to be the most expensive Malayalam film yet. According to reports, the film will include construction of massive sets and ships.

A movie titled Kunjali Marakkar was released in 1967 with Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair essaying the role of Marakkar.

Cinematographer-director Santosh Sivan had also announced a movie on Kunjali Marakkar IV with Mammootty in the lead. Priyadarshan had said that he would wait for a while to see whether Mammootty’s project takes off or else he would proceed with his.
