A day after the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) members criticised the Association for Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) for allegedly supporting superstar Dileep, an accused in the abduction and assault case of a female actor, the Facebook page of the outfit has been flooded with abusive trolls and vitriol comments.

At a press meet held in Kochi on Saturday, the WCC members had lashed out at the AMMA leadership for allegedly showing "bias" against the actor who was abducted and molested in her car near the city last year. Dileep was arrested on charges of conspiracy in the case and later released on bail.

The WCC actors accused AMMA of indulging in "victim shaming" and publicly "mocking" women who had chosen to speak about the matter.  Attacking AMMA president and superstar Mohanlal, senior actor Revathy said the leadership of the outfit was "unjust".

The press meet, however, has not gone down well with the self-claimed fans of the superstars, who pounded the WCC Facebook page with disgusting and outrageous comments. While many of them have launched personal attacks on actors Parvathy and Padmapriya, who attended the press meet along with Revathy, a few others have threatened a backlash when their films hit the screen next time.

Bina Paul Venugopal, deputy director, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, director Anjali Menon, script writer Deedi Damodaran and actresses Rima Kallingal, Ramya Nambeesan and Sajitha Madhathil also attended the press conference.

Interestingly, the WCC members had earlier complained about the cyber attack they have been facing ever since they took up the issue.

The abduction and assault of the popular female actor on February 17, 2017 had triggered widespread shock in the Malayalam film industry.

Dileep, the accused actor, was behind bars for over 80 days and is presently out on bail.

Though he was removed from AMMA's primary membership soon after the assault incident, the outfit recently reinstated him in the organisation, triggering widespread protests.

The actor, who was assaulted, had resigned with three others, too, putting in their papers in solidarity with her.
