Popular South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk has come out in support of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which might face cancellation this year on account of the Kerala floods. According to The Hindu, in a note that was handed over to filmmaker Bijukumar Damodaran and actor Prakash Bare at the Almaty Film Festival, he had requested that IFFK not be cancelled. He said that art played a major role in helping people overcome the scars of disasters.

The Kerala government had decided against holding the IFFK and school state youth festival (Kalolsavam) this year as the state continues to reel under the aftermath of the August floods. The general administration department has issued an order in this regard. All events conducted by the tourism department will also be withheld this year. The fund earmarked for these events would be donated to the relief fund. The IFFK, held during December, attracts hundreds of movie buffs to the state.
