Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala has been facing hurdles in the run-up to its release across the country on Thursday. Miffed with his comments on the Cauvery water sharing row, pro-Kananda groups in Karnataka called for a ban on its release in the state.

Despite threats, leading producer and distributor Kanakapura Srinivas confirmed he will be releasing the film in the state. “#Kaala gets a new distributor in #Karnataka at the last minute as #GoldieFilms back out. The new distributor is the veteran #KanakapuraSrinivas producer and distributor. Release June 7,” trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.

According to reports, Srinivas will be screening the film in over 130 screens in the state. Earlier, Kaala was supposed to be released by Goldie Films in Karnataka, but they backed out fearing protests.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered the state government to provide security to theatres screening the film, and allow a smooth release.
