At the annual Met Gala event held in New York on Monday night, celebrities came dressed as angels, goddesses and even the Pope. Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, too, stuck to the 2018 theme of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and made a style statement in a maroon velvet gown. Designed by Ralph and Lauren, the strapless gown was paired with an embellished golden chain coif. True to the night's theme, Priyanka Chopra looked like a medieval deity, and rocked the look.

Priyanka Chopra wore a Ralph and Lauren at last year's event too—the trench coat ensemble had captured social media's attention and inspired many memes.

Deepika Padukone, on the other hand, slayed it in a red off-shoulder draped dressed designed by Prabal Gurung. She paired it with red heels, red lipstick ad diamond earrings. Though she rocked the look, she seems to have clearly missed the Catholic-inspired theme. Social media users wondered how Deepika Padukone's designer could have missed the theme.

The 2018 exhibit shows how Catholicism has influenced fashion and designers through the decades and features more than 50 vestments and other religious items direct from the Vatican. The invitation-only Met Gala is a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and also marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibition.

Rihanna, one of the Met Gala co-hosts, dressed like a pope, sporting a head-turning, jewel-encrusted mitre with matching mini-dress and a priestly-style cape designed by Maison Margiela.

Katy Perry wowed in enormous, feathered six foot high white wings teamed with a Versace gold mini-dress paired with thigh-high gold boots.

Madonna, a key religious provocateur early in her pop career, turned demure in a black, long-sleeved gown, with a huge gold crown, and a full face veil.
