Goodbye Frank Underwood: No Kevin Spacey in new 'House of Cards' trailer

In Netflix's House of Cards final season trailer, the camera pans through a bustling White House and stops at the president of United States swivellling around to greet the viewers with a contorted smile: "We are just getting started."

After Netflix decided to jettison Kevin Spacey, who played the conniving Frank Underwood in the show, there were numerous questions on the direction the show would take; the final season had left us with Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) coming into her own as the president, and the shadows of an emerging feud with Frank.

The trailer reveals next to nothing, except reassuring viewers that the streaming giant would no longer deal with Kevin Spacey. Netflix had severed ties with Spacey, one of its biggest stars, after a number of allegations of sexual misconduct against the Oscar-winning actor. “Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,” the company said in a statement.

Spacey was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of attempts to seduce him in 1986, when Rapp was 14.  Spacey, as part of his apology to Rapp, announced he was gay, which angered many in the LGBT community and beyond who saw his announcement as an effort to divert attention from the accusations.
