₹661-crore BrahMos deal to strengthen Indian Navy's long-range maritime strike capability
Defence ministry has signed a ₹661.50-crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace to procure advanced Fire Control Systems and launchers for the Indian Navy
The Indian Navy is enhancing its maritime strike capabilities through a ₹661.50-crore deal with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for Fire Control Systems and launchers. This procurement strengthens the deployment of the BrahMos missile, the Navy's primary surface-to-surface weapon, on its frontline warships, capable of engaging land and sea targets at supersonic speeds with pinpoint accuracy. The agreement, made under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, also prioritizes indigenous technology development, requiring a minimum of 68% local content and encouraging participation from Indian industries, including MSMEs.

A ₹661.50-crore deal for BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers is set to strengthen the Indian Navy's maritime strike capabilities by supporting the deployment of its primary surface-to-surface missile system aboard naval ships.
The defence ministry, on Tuesday, signed the contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category. The agreement covers the procurement of BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships.
The BrahMos system serves as the Navy's primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime strike operations and is deployed as the “prime strike weapon” aboard frontline surface combatants, including destroyers and frigates.
The new fire control systems and launchers will support a weapon capable of engaging both land and sea targets from extended ranges. BrahMos can strike targets at supersonic speeds and offers pinpoint accuracy.
The procurement strengthens the infrastructure required to employ BrahMos from Indian naval vessels, adding to the Navy's maritime strike capabilities and the country's broader maritime security architecture, according to the defence ministry.
In its naval configuration, BrahMos can be launched in either vertical or inclined mode from moving or stationary maritime platforms. It is designed to engage targets at sea or on land from stand-off ranges.
According to BrahMos, the Indian Navy has deployed the missile since 2005. The weapon has provided the force an edge in conducting both littoral and high-sea missions.
The contract also advances efforts to indigenise sophisticated military technology. The project will have a minimum indigenous content of 68 per cent and encourage participation from Indian industries, including MSMEs.
The programme is also expected to generate employment over a three-year period, the defence ministry noted.
