The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is set to get a new headquarters in New Delhi by the end of December.
Coming up on a 2.23-acre site at the CGO Complex along Lala Lajpat Rai Road, the new headquarters is expected to address the space constraints faced by the country's largest paramilitary force and bring several of its branches currently operating from different locations under one roof.
The ₹277-crore office complex will have a ground floor and 11 additional floors. It will accommodate various CRPF branches, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Northern Sector and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA).
According to a report by news agency ANI, the new headquarters will feature conference halls, barracks, a gym, a canteen and parking facilities for more than 500 cars.
The complex will also have an effective command-and-control system, modern training modules and an auditorium.
"The under-construction new CRPF headquarters building is almost on the verge of completion. We expect that the building will be ready by December this year, and the force would start functioning from there by shifting in a phased manner," ANI quoted an official as saying.
One of the major advantages of the new facility will be the consolidation of CRPF offices that currently function from different locations across the national capital because of inadequate space at the existing headquarters.
"Soon after the completion of the new headquarters building—a number of its offices, like those of the RAF, CoBRA, medical, training, communications, and works and recruitment, located at different locations in the national capital owing to lack of space in the current head office building—will start functioning from one place," the official said.
The consolidation is expected to bring several important operational and administrative branches of the force into a single complex.
Earlier this week, CRPF Director General G.P. Singh carried out a comprehensive review of the ongoing construction work.
During the review, project engineers and senior officials were asked to ensure seamless coordination between agencies so that the facility could be handed over on time.
