Further strengthening its defence ties with Ankara, Pakistan has reportedly inducted an unknown number of Baykar K2 long-range kamikaze UAVs. With the capability to carry 200-kilogram warheads for a maximum distance of 2,000 kilometres, the acquisition increases the Pakistan Air Force's capability to exhaust enemy air defence, deep strike, and swarming options.
The capability to deliver a 200-kilogram warhead makes the Baykar K2 a particularly impressive weapon, as unlike other smaller suicide drones, it can strike more valuable targets like radars, hangars, and even hardened installations. They come with cameras and an abortable attack concept — meaning they can make a U-turn if the initial mission circumstances change.
Its navigation architecture is reportedly built to remain effective in electronic warfare conditions, with autonomous progress towards a target made possible without needing GNSS signals. The system was first unveiled in March 2026 and shown publicly during the International Defence and Aerospace Exhibition (SAHA 2026) at Istanbul.
The largest platform in its class, the Baykar K2 has an operational altitude of 8,000 ft. It comes with Beyond-Line-of-Sight (BLOS) communication available and can stay in operation for more than 13 hours, with a cruise speed of 70 knots and a maximum speed of 110 knots. It has a 10-metre wingspan, is 5.1 metres long and 2.1 metres high, and has autonomous take-off, landing, cruising, and taxiing capabilities.
No official confirmation is available on the delivery schedule or operational readiness of the incoming Turkish UAV fleet, Defence Security Asia said in a report. "For Pakistan, the platform could therefore become most consequential when integrated with Bayraktar TB2 and AKINCI aircraft already associated with its unmanned force, creating reconnaissance, targeting, communications and strike relationships extending beyond the capabilities of an isolated kamikaze drone," the article said.

The challenge for India, with the relationship remaining strained, will be to ensure its layered air defence is equipped with the right radars and guns to detect and eliminate the slow-moving, low-altitude platform effectively. S-400 projectiles or Akash missiles should not be wasted on loitering munitions, as expensive interceptors need to be preserved for ballistic threats.
Recently, it was also confirmed that Pakistan is inducting ASELSAN KORKUT 35mm air defence guns to deal with potential drone challenges. Another Turkish hit, the KORKUT has a maximum speed of 105 km/h and an ammunition capacity of 200 rounds (with a rate of fire of 1,100 rounds per minute).
