The top leadership of the Indian Army, on Wednesday, briefed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence on the measures being taken to protect the country, including force deployments along land borders, strategic locations and internal security duties.

The briefing was led by Chief of Defence Staff General N.S. Raja Subramani and attended by several senior Army officers, including Lieutenant Generals, Major Generals and Brigadiers holding key positions.

Citing sources, a PTI report said, the Army leadership informed the parliamentary panel, chaired by BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh, that adequate forces have been deployed along the borders and at strategically important locations to counter any potential threat from forces inimical to the country.

The agenda for the meeting was "Oral evidence of the representatives of the Ministry of Defence on the subject 'Role of Indian Army in ensuring defence of the Country'."

Apart from border security, the Army also briefed the committee on its role in maintaining internal security in Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern region.

The Army leadership further outlined their contribution to disaster management operations and informed the panel about the adoption of new and modern technologies aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness.

Sources said the discussion provided members of the committee with an overview of the Army's deployment patterns, preparedness and technological advancements.

A member of the committee who attended the meeting described the interaction as productive.

"It was a good meeting. We are satisfied with the briefing by the Army. We are very proud of our Armed Forces," the member said.
