The Indian Army is enhancing the combat effectiveness of its Israeli-origin NEGEV 7.62×51 light machine guns, which are now being manufactured domestically by the Adani Group, by integrating the Israeli-made MEPRO X6 telescopic sight. This fixed 6x magnification sight, chosen by the Army after extensive evaluation for its enhanced target identification, acquisition, and accuracy in demanding conditions, will be manufactured in India through a comprehensive Transfer of Technology agreement between Meprolight and RRP Defense, with RRP Defense supplying the sights to Bharat Electronics Limited, the prime contractor, thereby boosting India's defense manufacturing ecosystem and ensuring long-term operational readiness.

The Indian Army is set to increase the effectiveness of its Israeli-origin NEGEV machine guns as it picked an Israeli-made telescopic sight designed to improve target identification, acquisition and accuracy in combat conditions.

Originally developed by Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), the NEGEV 7.62×51 light machine gun is now being manufactured at the Adani Group's facility in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

Israeli defence optics company Meprolight announced that the Army has chosen its MEPRO X6 telescopic sight as the daytime optics solution for the NEGEV machine guns.

The MEPRO X6 is a fixed 6x magnification telescopic sight designed for assault rifles, light machine guns and other weapon systems that require a combination of precision, ruggedness and high optical performance, statement from the company said.

According to the company, the sight offers enhanced target identification and acquisition capabilities, a wide field of view and dependable performance under demanding operational and environmental conditions.

The selection followed an extensive evaluation process by the Indian Army, which included user assessments and environmental testing focused on reliability, durability, accuracy and ease of operation under challenging conditions.

A key aspect of the programme is the transfer of technology. To support the Make in India initiative, Meprolight has signed a comprehensive Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement with RRP Defense.

Under the arrangement, the Israeli company will transfer the knowledge, processes and manufacturing capabilities required for full-scale production of the MEPRO X6 in India.

RRP Defense will manufacture the sights locally and supply them to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), which will act as the prime contractor for the Indian Army under the programme.

"The selection of the MEPRO X6 by the Indian Army is a significant milestone, and through our technology transfer partnership, we are proud to contribute not only advanced capability but also to the long-term growth of India's defence and manufacturing ecosystem," said Golan Kalimi, senior vice president of Meprolight.

The company said the collaboration between Meprolight, BEL and RRP Defense will help deliver the systems, ensure long-term support and sustain operational readiness for the Indian Army in the years ahead.
