In what comes as the first-ever supply of cannons from an Indian defence manufacturer to America, the US is all set to buy India-made advanced artillery cannons from a Bharat Forge subsidiary.

Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd (KSSL), a subsidiary of Indian defence major Bharat Forge Ltd, signed a letter of intent in this regard with AM General, USA, during the ongoing international defence exhibition IDEX 2025 in Abu Dhabi.

The deal comes days after India and the US unveiled an ambitious plan to sign a new 10-year defence partnership and pursue co-production of key weapons and platforms during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US.

Calling the deal "pathbreaking" chairman and managing director of Bharat Forge Baba Kalyani, said KSSL is proud to be the first Indian company to supply cannons to the US and added that the agreement underscores the trust and confidence that global defence leaders, such as AM General, place in the company's capabilities.

"It also reinforces our commitment to delivering cutting-edge, battle-proven solutions to meet modern warfare requirements."

In a statement, KSSL said the company had recently entered an agreement with AM General to co-develop a wide range of next-generation artillery solutions, including mounted, towed, and ultra-light gun systems in both 105mm and 155mm calibres.

AM General has been actively exploring next-generation artillery solutions. According to KSSL, its prior collaboration with the US company on artillery platforms has paved the way for this deeper engagement for the supply of cannons.

"This Letter of Intent with KSSL represents an important step in expanding our strategic partnership. Given KSSL's proven artillery capabilities and our shared commitment to technological innovation, we see tremendous potential in bringing advanced artillery solutions to the US defence forces,” a statement from KSSL read.
