Brazilian Navy keen to work with India in several areas of defence cooperation: Report

Indian Navy cooperates with its Brazilian counterpart through various initiatives, which include operational interactions, training cooperation, and other maritime avenues

Commander of the Brazilian Navy Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen, during his recent official visit to India, expressed the desire to work with India in several areas, including maritime intelligence gathering and sharing, capacity building, interoperability, search and rescue, transnational crimes, anti-piracy, and naval cooperation among others.

Indian Navy cooperates with its Brazilian counterpart through various initiatives, which include operational interactions, training cooperation, and other maritime avenues.

The visit of Admiral Olsen to India was aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation between the two countries as well as showcasing the commitment of like-minded navies to collaborate and cooperate on shared challenges in maritime security.

He had called on Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi to discuss operational engagements, technical cooperation, and training between the two countries that are members of BRICS.

According to a Times Now report, Brazil is also looking at the "integration of weapons and systems and ensuring a stable supply chain," and network-centric warfare and stealth technologies.

Admiral Olsen expressed willingness to build a strong partnership with the Indian Navy.

Bilateral defence cooperation between India and Brazil is conducted through the joint defence committee, steered by respective ministries of defence.
