AI behemoth Anthropic on Monday filed papers for its initial public offering (IPO), aiming to accelerate its expansion, according to a regulatory filing.
The company said it will list its stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT. The IPO planned for next month would put the San Francisco-based startup ahead of OpenAI, which is also eyeing a potential IPO in next year.
“There are four things that we would like any investor in Anthropic to understand: The incredible potential of AI, the risks we must address, Anthropic’s unique approach to building a company and operating in the world, and the ways in which our behavior may differ from that of a purely profit-maximizing company,” reads the Anthropic S-1 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). "We believe that AI is one of the most consequential technologies in human history. If managed well, it could rapidly accelerate scientific innovation, greatly increase economic growth rates, bring cures for major diseases within reach, and solve problems that have resisted generations of human effort."
While the amount Anthropic intends to raise is still under wraps along with its final valuation and offer price, the startup is touted to turn into one of the most valuable companies even at lower estimates.
Some reports suggested that the offering could raise as much as $100 billion, which will beat the record set by Elon Musk's SpaceX debut in June and Saudi Aramco’s 2019 IPO.
Earlier this year, private investors valued the five-year startup at $965 billion. The 335-page document filed by Anthropic shows that the company is yet to turn a profit despite rapidly growing revenue.
However, the company could see its value rise $1.5 trillion or even $2 trillion, as per Reuters. SpaceX was valued at $1.8 trillion when it debuted. This would make Anthropic one of the world's most valuable companies alongside Tesla, according to the news agency.
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are the lead banks for the IPO alongside 20 others as underwriters. Morgan Stanley will act as a stabilisation agent, overseeing the stock's early trading, according to the paperwork.
