At a time when Kerala’s households are suffering from scheduled power outages or "load shedding", one of India’s leading healthcare providers has taken steps to ensure it meets the round-the-clock energy requirements of one of its biggest hospitals going forward.

Aster DM Quality Care announced today that it commissioned a 10MW solar power project for Kochi-based Aster Medcity in Kerala, in partnership with Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd.

The initiative, in which Aster invested ₹3.87 crore, comprises a ground-mounted solar project located at Ambalathara and adjoining villages in Hosdurg, Kasargod.

"The project integrates high-efficiency bifacial solar modules optimised for Kerala's tropical climate and is designed to deliver reliable and cost-efficient clean power to support the round-the-clock energy requirements of Aster Medcity," Aster DM Quality Care stated.

The sustainable project is expected to generate renewable energy to the tune of 16–17.5 million units a year. This will meet 90 per cent of Aster Medcity’s total energy requirement on a captive basis.

The developer of the project is Oyster Renewable, and the power will be supplied through Oyster Green Hybrid Two Private Ltd, in which Aster Group has a 26 per cent equity stake. "The Aster Medcity project marks Oyster’s second-largest solar installation for a healthcare institution to date and sets a new benchmark for what clean energy infrastructure in this sector can look like," said Siddharth Bhatia, Managing Director & CEO, Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd.

Aster DM Quality Care, the overall listed entity that now houses Aster DM, CARE Hospitals, Evercare, and KIMSHEALTH brands, also announced last week that it looks to allocate ₹1,900 crore in FY2027, ₹3,000 crore in FY2028, and ₹2,000 crore in FY2029 in capital "intended to support investments in operating subsidiaries, joint ventures and other strategic business initiatives".
