Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first ever Fuel Flex Car today. Though the model lineup is not yet confirmed, Maruti has started with the Fuel Flex Wagon R. The car will be capable of running on petrol and ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E100, which also includes pure ethanol. While no further details of the car have been released, it is said to have a 998cc engine with a manual transmission.

Due to the eco-friendly environment and the government’s push towards the use of cleaner alternative fuels, Maruti Suzuki has launched the newly Fuel Flex Wagon R while other companies such as Mahindra and Tata are planning to launch Fuel Flex cars in the near future.

The Flex Fuel vehicles have a huge impact since it decreases the imports of crude oil and petrol products. Since the fuel prices are high, the concept of Fuel Flex cars and the presence of ethanol will allow the government to lower fuel prices.

The Wagon R is a popular all-round entry level hatchback with fuel efficient powertrains and a roomy interior. Making this into a Fuel Flex car will make it even more efficient for city use while being environmentally friendly. The government is planning on producing 5,000 outlets across the country by the end of 2027.

Overall, the Wagon R Fuel Flex is a huge first step for Maruti to go eco-friendly with the use of ethanol while staying as a popular hatchback. As time goes on, Maruti plans to launch higher ethanol-petrol blends such as the E22, E25, E27 and the E30.
