Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said India got a better trade deal with the US than its competitors, thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership capabilities and his friendship with US President Donald Trump.
The minister clarified that the US had imposed reciprocal tariff and hence the announcement regarding reduction of duties came from President Trump. He revealed that the final details of trade deal are being worked out and a joint statement by the two countries will be issued shortly.
Goyal said Modi has always given special attention to the welfare of stakeholders in the animal husbandry, agriculture and dairy sectors. “India-US trade deal will open huge opportunities for poor, fishermen, farmers and youth,” the minister added.
“I wanted to speak in Parliament about the deal, but could not do so because of ugly scenes created by Congress led by Rahul Gandhi,” Goyal said over the ruckus in Lok Sabha.
He slammed Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted the US-India trade deal under pressure. "This trade deal with US is a good omen for India's bright future. Regrettable that Rahul Gandhi is trying to mislead nation on US trade deal, he has nothing to do with India's progress,” the minister claimed.
