Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won a new “significant” contract for the Mumbai Metro, it said in a regulatory statement on Wednesday. The engineering major said its Transportation Infrastructure business has secured Package CA‑298 from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for work on Metro Line 4, which runs from Bhakti Park in Wadala to Cadbury Junction and includes 22 elevated stations along a 24.72km stretch.

L&T classifies the latest contract as a “significant” project, a term it uses for orders valued between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore, though the exact order value has not been disclosed.

Under the contract, L&T will handle the complete electrification of this section of Line 4. The scope covers design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of the power supply and traction systems across the 24.72 route km.

It also includes setting up a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for the entire Line 4 and 4A network, spanning 32 stations, depots and a receiving substation.

L&T also announced that its in‑house teams will execute electrical and mechanical systems, as well as lifts and escalators, for 22 elevated stations and two depots covered under the package. The contract also carries a five‑year comprehensive maintenance component. This means L&T will not only be responsible for installation but also for keeping the systems running smoothly in the initial years of operation. All design and execution work will be carried out by L&T’s own engineering and project units, the company said.

This marks the third consecutive order that L&T has won on the Line 4 and 4A corridor of the Mumbai Metro, underlining its deep involvement in the project. Earlier, it bagged Package CA‑234, which includes rolling stock, CBTC‑based signalling, telecommunications, platform screen doors and depot machinery and plant for the full corridor. It also won Package CA‑168 for 19.5km of ballast‑less track work across 15 stations.

This contract win comes more than three months after the same Transportation Infrastructure vertical clinched a “large” order (Rs 2,500-5,000 crore) from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) to construct 156 route km of high-speed ballastless track for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor.
