When Mahindra and Mahindra Group CEO and MD Anish Shah unveiled the automaker’s aspirations on the global stage with its Vision 2027, a lot of buzz surrounded the new platforms.

If Mahindra’s dreams of global expansions were to come true, these platforms that are to become the base for new SUVs need to be of international standards.

“I am honoured to unveil our bold new vision for 2027 that will become the backbone of our next generation of world-beating SUVs, engineered right here in India, for India and the world,” Group CEO Shah announced.

The latest update came a day after Mahindra South Africa inaugurated its new, purpose-built vehicle assembly facility at the Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in KwaZulu-Natal.

The new plant neighbours the automaker’s first assembly site, built in the SEZ back in 2018. In South Africa, the Mahindra unit has sold more than 1 lakh vehicles to date.

Back in India, Mahindra’s Chakan-based manufacturing plant has been upgraded to cater to global demands, according to the chief executive.

Mahindra’s new SUVs from 2027 will be based on its new modular, multi-energy NU_IQ platform, the company said.

In line with that, the automaker also introduced four SUV concepts: the Vision.S, Vision.T, Vision.SXT, and Vision.X. “These concepts, engineered at Mahindra ResearchValley, will go into production starting 2027,” the company added in an official statement.
