Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday night. He was 86.

Confirming the demise of one of the most celebrated and respected industrialists of India, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, in a statement, claimed that the company has "bid farewell" to "friend, mentor and guide".
Ratan Tata was "a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation," the statement said. "His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to uphold the principles he so passionately championed," it added.
Ratan Tata was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai where he breathed his last. The noted philantropist, who ran the Tata conglomerate for more than two decades as chairman, was admitted to intensive care since Monday.
