Ranjit Shahani who once served as Novartis India's Vice Chairman and Managing Director died on Saturday, according to CNBC TV18. He was 73 years old.

Shahani was with Novartis for 20 years between 1997 and 2017. He was also the Chairman of JB Pharmaceuticals.

Who was Ranjit Shahani?

Ranjit Shahani was with Novartis India for around two decades from 1997 to 2017. Before joining the Swiss pharmaceuticals major, he worked at Roche Products India Ltd as its CEO and President. His early career was at (Imperial Chemical Industries) ICI India and ICI UK.

Shahani had also served as the president of Swiss Chamber of Commerce, Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India. He was also the board director of Ambuja Cements Ltd and Hikal Ltd.

He did his Bachelors in mechanical engineering from IIT-Kanpur and completed his MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai.

Director-producer Karan Johar's mother was Shahani's second cousin.

Shahani's personal interests included his love for Sufi music and serious reading of the Bhagavad Gita, he had told MoneyControl in an earlier interview.
