Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi feels that India is one of the toughest markets for the company to grow.
During an interaction with Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani in Bengaluru, Khosrowshahi explained why India is a challenging market.
"India is one of the toughest markets out there; they are so demanding and do not pay for anything. If we can succeed here, we can succeed anywhere else," he said.
He further spoke about the company's plan to expand its services, especially in low-cost two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments saying, "One of the strategic single biggest opportunity is lower cost products like two-wheeler and three-wheeler."
On how the company survived during Covid, he said they had to "painfully get out of some busieness, layoff some people and I think that event really caused the conpany to double down on some areas like advertising..."
We went from a $3 billion burn to $ 5 billion burn during the pandemic, he revealed.
Khosrowshahi admitted that during the pandemic, the company was much focused on customers and took the drivers for granted. "...but post pandemic, we had to focus on our drivers. Se changed from the platform, offer them more incentives," he added.
