Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, which will set up a joint research centre with China's leading Tsinghua University next year focusing on research and development of electric vehicles (EVs), said it is planning to sell EVs developed in China in the overseas markets.

The company, on Sunday, said it is considering exporting the existing internal combustion engine vehicles and its upcoming line of pure electric and plug-in hybrid cars manufactured in China, Reuters reported.

The Japanese carmaker aims to take advantage of China's lower manufacturing costs.

Nissan said the collaboration with the Chinese university "will help us gain a deeper understanding of the Chinese market and develop strategies that better meet the needs of customers in China."

According to an AP report, Nissan intends to develop 10 new-energy vehicles for the Chinese market.
