The Reserve Bank of India, on Friday, announced that it is withdrawing Rs 2,000 currency notes from circulation.
However, if you have Rs 2,000 denomination notes, you still have time till September 30 to exchange them.
The central bank said people can either deposit the notes they have in their bank accounts or exchange them for notes of other denominations.
You can start exchanging the Rs 2000 notes from banks from May 23 (Tuesday). Exchange of Rs 2,000 bank notes into banknotes of other denominations can be made up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time at any bank.
The facility for the exchange of Rs 2,000 bank notes up to the limit of Rs 20,000 at a time will also be provided at the 19 Regional Offices (ROs) of the RBI having issue departments from May 23.
People don't need to pay any fee for exchanging the notes. Banks have also been asked to ensure that citizens and persons with disabilities are not inconvenienced when they come to exchange or deposit notes.
