One of the reasons for downsizing by Walmart is automation

Walmart Inc will lay off 2,000 employees across different warehouses in the US. More than 1,000 of those who will be losing jobs are from the warehouse in Fort Worth, Texas. 

Walmart is the largest private-sector employer in the United States.

As many as 600 employees at a Walmart fulfilment centre in Pennsylvania, 400 workers in Florida, and 200 in New Jeresy will also be laid off, reports Bloomberg, quoting a regulatory filing. Reduction is also planned in California.

The company had, last month, confirmed that it will be laying off employees, but did not reveal further details. 

A company spokesperson reportedly said that Walmart is growing in some areas and is equipping itself to handle more online orders. This will allow the company to readjust roles instead of laying off more people.

According to media reports, one of the reasons for downsizing is automation at the company's fulfillment centres.
