The ministry of finance has informed that Infosys CEO Salil Parekh has been summoned by the government to meet Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday.

The official Twitter handle of the income tax department tweeted that Parekh was being summoned to explain to Sitharaman about continuing glitches with the e-filing portal that was developed by the IT giant. The I-T department claimed the portal "itself is not available" since Saturday.

The income tax department tweeted, "Ministry of Finance has summoned Sh Salil Parekh,MD&CEO @Infosysbon 23/08/2021 to explain to hon'ble FM as to why even after 2.5 months since launch of new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved. In fact, since 21/08/2021 the portal itself is not available."

Numerous glitches were reported in the e-filing portal since its launch in June this year. These included problems such as longer time to log in, difficulty in generating one-time password for Aadhaar validation, issues with viewing past income tax returns and tax proceedings.

Since the glitches surfaced, Sitharaman had expressed concern about the issues. In July, the government informed the Lok Sabha that Infosys had been paid Rs 164.5 crore from January 2019 to June this year for its work on the e-filing portal.
