The Toyota Kirloskar Motor management on Tuesday announced that it has withdrawn the second lockout at both the plants in Bidadi, Karnataka. The operations will enhance with effect from the second shift of January 12, 2021 in both the plants with over 1,200 team members, the company stated.

“Thereafter, in view of a recent meeting held between Dr. Ashwathnarayan, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka with the TKM management and having observed a gradual improvement in safety situation, both inside and outside the company premises, TKM Management have decided to withdraw the lock-out, without any compromise to discipline and productivity," the company stated. The announcement comes two months after the company declared the first lockout and the workers went on a strike opposing the suspension of an employee.

Employees returning to work will sign a simple undertaking for good conduct and report to work, the company added.

The company had announced to shut operations at the facility on November 10 following worker union members resorting to a sit in strike at the factory premises to protest against the suspension of a worker. Based on the directions of the Karnataka government, the company's management had decided to lift the lockout from November 19. However, five days later, it had again suspended operations as "only few team members have reported to work as on date, as per their shift schedule and majority of the team members are continuing their illegal strike.”

The company has an installed capacity to produce 3.10 lakh units per annum across its two facilities in Bidadi.
