US fast food restaurant chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has decided to drop its famous ‘Finger Lickin' Good’ slogan in light of the coronavirus pandemic. The company feels that it doesn’t go with the times that call for face masks, sanitisation and social distancing norms.
The fast-food chain has acknowledged that it will need to move on from the tagline it has used on and off for more than six decades. For now, it has resorted to blurring the words on packaging and posters. The company said it will revert to the original when the time is right. The chain had shut its stores in March, but have reopened recently. Five months before, the company had received complaints about the slogan and advertising that featured images of people licking their fingers.
“We find ourselves in a unique situation—having an iconic slogan that doesn’t quite fit in the current environment,” said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, global chief marketing officer. “While we are pausing the use of ‘It’s Finger Lickin’ Good’, rest assured the food craved by so many people around the world isn’t changing one bit,” she added.
